What do you think about the death of Nathaniel Jones, the man who died while in the custody of Cincinnati police officers? Was the officers' use of force justified, in your opinion? Is Jones responsible for the results of his own actions? We want to know what you think!

Oh, pulease... The only group that finds the police to be "in the wrong" is a Citizens Action Group, who's entire purpose is to take the opposite side of any issue regarding the actual events of any situation it finds itself involved in.
If the grass is green they'll point out that it's black at the root, when in reality it's white... but that's the way they work.
This lawsuit is spurious and wrong. The police should sue the family for producing a Nathanial Jones in the first place.
And July, no, he didn't deserve to die, he died because he did drugs and attacked the police, and his diseased heart gave out. He did not die because the police hit him, or anything else...he died because he was extremely overweight, in poor health and was a drug abuser, and the only person who made the choice to overeat, (don't give me the thyroid argument...), not excercise and to do drugs was Nathanial Jones.
I am sick to death of this witch hunt. If the black community would accept responsibility for the actions of it's citizens; and citizens would take responsibility for themselves, then the city could actually move to resolving the issues the community as a whole has. The police did not attack Nathanial Jones, he attacked them. Frankly, if it were me, I would have shot him, and I don't, won't, and will never apologize for feeling that way.
Every day I see examples of how the black community deals with it's problems, and I deal with people who actually would call me the 'n' word, and then, add a definition, so I will not confuse definition with color. Only someone too ignorant to know the difference would need either, and that's not me.
Of course, they don't want to deal with the fact that they are the ones acting the fool, and when it comes back to them, they want to blame me. News flash, I didn't do it, people, and if you'd take RESPONSIBILITY for yourselves you'd not have to worry, even if I did.
And that's the bottom line.

Unreal: What did you know about Nat Jones before his stats came out? Nothing, that's what I thought. So just because he was acting strange, he deserved to die? And who said his family was disadvantaged? That is a preconceive perception. If the race card was reversed, how would you play it then? I'm not being funny, but for real. Before you knew about the contents of his system, would you still feel the same way?

Ohhhh.......Here we go. Now the family is suing the City because they have run out of options?
This is where lawyers put greed as a way to get even when the disadvantaged don't get thier way.
The family of Nathaniel Jones do not deserve one red penny for the actions of someone who was overweight, a drughead, served no benefit to society whatsoever, and the family wants to profit from his ignorance?
Pffffffffft!
I swear it fits the mold of a talk show. I plan to form a group of people to denounce such stupidity of people trying to profit from this black man's stupidity and lack of respect to the good policemen that did thier job that night.
And we all know how that family would spend the money if they get it.......I am sure some addicts are anxiously awaiting thier next fix.
Remember.............birds of a feather flock together, and the autopsy showed what drugs were in this guy. Shame on you people,,,SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!

Wow! what can I say...you want to fight with the police then bad things are going to happen to you! That's what we pay them for. We want them to protect us but so often we don't want to see how they do it. It's pretty obvious to me when the officer yells at Nate to step back and refuses and continues to come at the officer the officer needs to defend himself. You have plenty of Liberals crying about why didn't the officer retreat? 1st of all that's not his job, 2ndly let's say he did and Nate then passed him and killed a loved one of yours while he's higher than a kite on crack, PCP laced with embolming fluid...and God knows what else is in his system!.... Then You'd be the first person for suing the police for not stopping him. If you want to be a Liberal and think either all people are good or can be rehabilitated, how about you put a badge and gun on and protect the public? No worries though.....because you'll be for the other side or dead in no time! Hopefully the latter for the rest of us realist.

Ain't nuttin bringin back Ole Nate now ya hear?
Look at all the opinions this thread generated, and nothing, I mean nothing, was accomplished in such angered thoughts against Cincinnati Police.
Just proves again that actions speak louder than words.
Nate's actions left him surrounded by meaningless words.

Being the fan of History that I am, I would point out that oppressed people who refuse to fight their oppression end up being subservient to the vocal minority in any environment.
Until people speak up, publicly, loudly, and at risk to themselves, their loved ones, and their dreams, they will never know the fruition of those dreams, or the successes of their loved ones, because the cycle will continue, winding ever tighter until eventually, like all rot, it strangles it's host.
The silent majority is what Dr. King feared the most, and it is what even to this day allows situations like Winton Terrace, and everywhere else to occur.
It's easy to blame authority for oppression, but in this city, the oppression of the majority of the black community is from the violent and vocal minority of the black community.
Living in fear is no life. Living on truth, principle, and risk is the only life to lead. If one does not risk the life he cherishes, one does not lead the life he wishes, but rather is led by the life others have chosen for him.
There is no excuse for silence in the light of day, nor in the dark of night. Wrong is wrong, and right is right, and until those who know right but fear wrong speak up, wrong will triumph over the oppressed, and the oppressed will continue to believe and extract their vengence on authority, instead of upon the problem.
Get mad people. And speak up.

Wolfmaster: Those people, just like in a lot of neighborhoods are afraid to give out information, due to the fact that they believe they will be next or be terrorized. It's really a shame, but this is what it has gotten too. This is the reason why Crimestoppers was formulated. To give people the chance to come forward with information, without the fear of being exposed. But many believe that it's not really that safe. They believe that somewhere along the line, they will be exposed. In fact, would you believe that many of the homicides that has happened is due to the fact that many of those dead were informants. We were doing some research over at the crime lab, and we read that many of those dudes had been paid informants for the police. They were exposed and then eliminated. The code on the street is, you rat, you dead meat. Really a sad state of affairs.

July,
I wasn't referring to the Police, they'll do their job... I was referring to the residents of Winton Terrace, who have done NOTHING to address the situation.
There should be no need for rewards. There should be no need for informants. There should be no need for monetary coersion.
The good and decent people trapped amongst the loud, assumptive, angry people of Winton Terrace should have already exposed the problems.
They're afraid.
Terror by their own people.
Nothing has been done.

Wolfmaster: Hate to disappoint you, but the police have been getting information regarding the destruction of the news media vans and other property. Just because you don't hear it all the time, doesn't mean nothing is being done. As the old saying goes, "Money talks, BS walks" therefore, the police, through crimestoppers offer rewards for information. It works. Next point!
