What's the best hospital you've ever been to in terms of ER response, medical care, nursing, doctors on staff?

Any hospital where you dont have to end up calling 911 while waiting 3 hours in the emergency room during an asthma attack....

oh...and one where the doctor doesnt run out of surgery to cash his paycheck!!

Not South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, got sent there from Doctors Office for an X-Ray of my daughters elbow. They took the X-Ray after about 45 minutes, told us to wait and then explained that the primary MD had to give us the results so it might be an hour. After an 90 minute wait and no activity in the Radiology lounge other than people waiting I called from the desk, most were at supper and then after a huffy girl on the phone said "you can go" I repeated the instructions and she came back on the phone and gave me the results of "everything is normal you can go" No face to face contact etc.

Sorry South Shore but not happy with the service there.

None ! You get that kind of care only if you're rich, a "somebody", or a politician. The rest just sit and wait for hours feeling more miserable by the minute...hey, but who cares....we're only the "commoners"!!

i went the ER at Nashoba Valley and was treated fairly quickly. I was the last patient treated and when I went out into the waiting room, my husband was there waiting to be seen. He had been hit in the ankle with a softball and was writhing in pain actually crying. There was a young girl ahead of him with a spider bite also waiting.I didnt think it would take long since no one was back there being treated....boy was I wrong! we waited one hour and I finally asked the front desk nurse for a wheelchair so I could get him to my car. They gladly gave it to me. The girl was never seen either. Not sure what was going on....perhaps an extra long coffee break????

Parkland Hospital in Derry NH. They are always polite and efficient in patient care as well as bed side manner. The nurses are always friendly.

Without any doubt whatsoever the BEST hospital in the Boston area if not the entire state is: Emerson Hospital in Concord. They've got the best doctors & nurses and a two teer ER so those folks with minor injuries or ailments don't wait forever. Also they care about everyone. Not just the rich tricks in big money towns like Bedford, Concord, Lincoln & Lexington. Back in October of 1998 I got sick & spent a grand total of 18 days, most of them in the cardiac ICU, as their guest. I also had major surgery. At that time I was between jobs and had NO health insurance. Emerson poaid the ENTIRE bill, incuding all surgeon's & doctor's fees. I'm ceratin that bill was in excess of $20,000 yet I never paid a penny out of my pocket. If it weren't for the good folks at Emerson I probably wouldn't be alive today. And just in case anyone cares, I fully recovered and lead a completely normal life. Again that's due entirely to the people at Emerson Hospital. The best of the best.

Cheers!!

I've never liked hospitals, and thus gave birth to my three kids at home. However, when it came time to have my then fiver year old second child have an operation on her bladder, I insisted on Children's Hospital, in Boston. I was very impressed with it. Her care was wonderful, and thorough, and her surgeon was incredible! I'd never go anywhere else for my children.

I think New England Medical Center is a good hospital. My mother in law had a very serious cardiac surgery there and the doctors, surgeons and nurses were all very attentive and caring. My two sisters have also been in the ER there because of a car accident and I found there wait time and care in the ER was just as good as it was in the cardiac care unit.

I actually work for large Boston Hospital for the emergency department (administrative dept).Long waits are not the choice of physicians or nurses. A number of combined issues play into the waits. Sick patients in the department waiting to be admitted to floors that have no beds. If admitted patients are in the emergency department then there are no beds/rooms to see the patients in the waiting room. This is not the physician's fault. They too want the patients to go to the floor so they can see the waiting patients. We discuss this issue all the time. We try to improve patient care each day. Emergency Departments see everyone who walks through the door. Some are sick and some are lonely. We don't turn anyone away. The overcrowding is because of misuse of the emergency department, insurance compaines, and the lack of primary care physicians. Lots of patients who are seen in the emergency department really only needed to see a primary care physician but could not get an appointment. Each person should be pro active in their care. If you are waiting for a long time and are truly ill ask to see the person in charge right away. This will facilitate your visit if you are truly ill. I personally like New England Medical Center, the wait time is small, and the care has been great as far as I know. I have taken my children there many times for emergencies. Not one complaint. Be proactive, be kind and ask to see the charge person if you have concerns and questions.

All of those on the Forum, today. The question is.."what is the BEST hospital you have ever been to?" Before you complain about hospitals and ER's, work in one for even a day. The staff is usually understaffed, overworked and just as stressed as the patient. Believe me, I know first hand, we do our complete best!! If you want to blame someone..blame the healthcare in this country. With so many Americans uninsured it is crouding our hospital ER's, due to the fact there is no continuity of care. So, next time you end up in the ER or hospital (and my hope is...you do not ever have to), just keep in mind the trained professionals are there to care for you and are doing the best they can. Be healthy!!
