The Vatican announced that the former head of the Boston Archdiocese, Cardinal Bernard Law, has been reassigned to a church in Rome.

What do you think of this?

ROME -- Cardinal Bernard Law, who resigned his Boston post amid the disgrace of the clergy sex scandal, says his faith has been strengthened while carrying out a new role in Rome.

He led a packed church celebrating the feast day of the Madonna of the Snow. Law said afterward he was "very happy." He said the faith of rank-and-file Catholics bolsters his own.

...Wow, I'm so glad that he's VERY HAPPY !

Another slap in the face. He should be in prison. That would make me VERY HAPPY !

It makes me sick to my stomach!

I thank God everyday that I walked away from the Catholic Church! There is definetly something wrong with a religion that doesn't punish people involved in covering up child sex abuse!

The Pope is a joke! The fact that he was capable of making such a distgusting decision makes me even sicker!

Nope - not even the Romans can take Law but, thankfully, they got him and he is no longer in the USA. However, watch for "father" Shanley move to dismiss the charges against him because of Bernie's failure to appear as a material witness. Also, at some point, watch for Friar Tuck O'Malley to name something after the cardinal - if O'Malley wants to be a cardinal, he will have to do it (after he closes a couple of catholic hospitals). Yup - as Secretary of State Galvin said - it is a going out of business sale!!! Too bad nobody cares any more!

Italian Group Protests Cardinal Law Vatican Officials Can't Be Reached For Comment

POSTED: 7:37 am EDT June 10, 2004 UPDATED: 7:42 am EDT June 10, 2004

ROME -- A few dozen right-wing protesters demonstrated Wednesday against the appointment of Cardinal Bernard Law to a Rome church, saying the U.S. sex abuse scandal should disqualify him.

Last month, Pope John Paul II appointed Law -- the former Boston archbishop who resigned in the midst of the scandal -- to the largely ceremonial post of archpriest of Rome's St. Mary Major Basilica, a position often given to retired prelates.

"He covered up 20 years of abuse against children," said Gino Castellino, 27, an activist with the far-right Fiamma Tricolore party. "We had to be here as Roman citizens to defend our Christian tradition."

The protesters placed a banner in front of the church reading, "Pedophiles get out of the temple."

Mitchek: I was unaware of the 'soulless'comment. Could you possible point me to a link where I may get the full text which includes this statement. Thank you

Mr. Pope lives in an enormous palace with a priceless art collection and a vault full of gold, that's not materialistic? Then as someone has written here he has small boys collecting coins in tin cups so that they can go to school? What's wrong with this picture?

Absolute disgrace. Also the Pope showed his true mind when he called Americans souless Because we are materialistic in this country. I only want my share that I work for nothing more and most of us in the US don't go and sacrafice little children to get or keep it. I go to church and I support my parish but I'll tell ya its time that this United States and its catholics me included tell the Pope to stick it and break away from Rome. This way I can be called a American Catholic instead of Roman Catholic.

On my way home this evening via the commuter rail from South Station, I met some third and fourth graders from Saint Peters School in South Boston who were carrying tin cups and asking the travelers to "save our school".

That kind of demonstration puts into focus the reassigment of Bernard cardinal Law, the guy directly responsible for the closure of those kids' school.

Yup - another instance of revictimization of the children - and, at the same time, they think they have some type of "moral authority" over us all! Pathetic!

Too bad Law couldn't take John Kerry, Ray Flynn and Teddy Kennedy with him.

Taedet Se; Exactly what I have been trying to tell these loyal Catholics. If the Catholic church was in fact the mystical body of Christ on Earth, as they like to say, wouldn't the leadership of this same church represent some similarities in character with Christ? They are polar opposites. The policy of this leadership is do as I say and not as I do? Hello? Watching the Pope talk with Bush the other day, all I could think was how pitiful.
