A jury has acquitted Dontee Stokes of attempted murder and assault charges in the shooting of a Baltimore priest. He was found guilty of three handgun violations. What do you think of the jury's decision?

Dontee Stokes committed a crime and got off, plain and simple. It says that in Maryland you can come here and shoot someone, and get away with it. It is a very sad day to be a citizen of this state. His jury of peers were not very smart either, I wonder if they would be so inclined to acquit if he came after them with a gun. So, what do I think about the verdict,it stinks just like this STATE!

Sincerely,

Joanne

The jury was wrong to play sentimentality against the law. I am black, a Viet vet and a competive shooter on a couple of teams. If I was caught with a loaded firearm in my possession on the way to a range to practice, I would be in jail. Firing 3 shots is not accidental and attempted murder is the legal call. Going to court to prosecute Blackwell would have been the right way to go. A gun crime is a gun crime unless it was self defense. The jury totally ignored the law.

This is typical for the city of peers. The man shot someone, sure it is not right for what he went thru, but think about it people. Also where was his family while all this was going on, if he tried other sources of help. Not to mention cost to the city. You people in the city have become a real treat for society. No wonder others across this country laugh. It is terrible what these so called juorors let him get away with!

So many people have had similar attacks during their childhood, not just by priests but by trusted family members who are supposed to care for you and keep you from harm. There are more of us out there than you can imagine. We don't forget. We move on and live our lives as best we can. What would the world be like if every molested child grew up and shot their molester. The world would not be over crowded anymore! If I shot my molester, what good would it actually do? I should have spoken up years ago. That's what would have done good. That's what would have stopped the crime from ever happening again. That's what you should teach your children. Speak up, speak out. Learn from this, pass it on. It's up to us to protect our children. If we don't talk, how will we know? Shooting the molester is not the answer. Communication is. That's how something like this is stopped.

it's so sad

Stokes was wronged but he in turn committed a crime. The priest should go to jail. Stokes should go to jail. The jurors that ignored the law should be punished. The Judge that accepted the verdict should be punished.

The law is the law - no one is above the law and no one can substitute himself for the law.

A precedent has been set that permits anyone to take revenge for any supposed wrong and get away with it. Where does it stop? Can the priest now shoot Stokes claiming stress and an "out of body" experience?

The justice system has failed!!!!!!! What does this say about our society to let a man take the law into his own hands???? It tells us that if we have a grudge against someone - we can get a handgun & shoot that person. Stokes should pay the price & go to prison for attempted murder!!!!!!

Stokes and Blackwell BOTH should spend time in jail. New attempted murder defense!! I didn't get an apology.

While I understand, what drove Stokes to commiting the crime he did. It doesn't erase the FACT that he did commit a crime. If someone hurt or killed someone I care about I would expect to be convicted and go to jail if I took justice in to my own hands. But some people in Baltimore seem to think that they can do anything they want and not be held accountable. And other people should be held fully responsiable. If you want justice it must be the same for EVERYONE!

Since when did vigilantism become legal in Baltimore? The residents of this city cry out for the mayor, the police to do more to combat crime... then the juries let those that are obviously guilty off. I see no justice here - both Blackwell and Stokes deserve many years in prison. It time for Baltimore to look in the mirror and take responsibility for allowing criminals to walk the streets.
