Did you see a great show -- or play one? Share you memories and experiences of the Golden West Saloon and the El Rey Theater here on this forum. You can also discuss ideas on how to help the Saloon.

If you have photos to share, upload them to our Golden West Saloon Slideshow here: http://www.koat.com/news/15440527/detail.html

Our band, LOTUS, played the Golden West several times in 2001 and 2003. I remember the diverse crowd, not so much because of us, but because it was the Golden West. Red walls in back and black & white checkerboard floor tile...the tin (I think) ceiling...carrying on with people on the street through the windows at the back of the stage...hanging out in the alley for load-in and load-out. Always a good time! It will be missed.

What a terrific loss to our community.

I played the Golden West a few years ago while in the band Blues Royale I remember it being a good time.

Also went to several shows at the El Rey.

My heart goes out to Kathy and her family. Theirs is a proud family heritage and an important contribution to the community.

While the venues, as they were, are gone you can be certain the replacement will be better than ever.

Kathy, you count on the Gail Gordon Group to provide whatever assistance we can to aid in the resurrection process and I challenge all New Mexico Musicians to do the same.

Gail Gordon

Be brave comrades...
