This is a forum for people in the Four Corner Area to meet, make friends, exchange ideas, share information, and tell others (and KOAT!) about what's happening in your area. Talk about the local issues in your community here.

LOL So make up your mind. Your daughter "decided" that she was gay. But you then say it's not a choice. Anyone else see the contradictory statement there? Anyway, this is not a "freedom of speach" issue. They can speak all they want. They don't have the right to be heard. 'Side, God said Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

Here is the email that I sent to all School Board members and the Principle concerning the Gay Straight Alliance.

Dear School District Members:

I understand that today at 5:15 pm you will be addressing and voting on a very important issue brought on by an equally controversial subject. You will review and vote on allowing non-academic after school clubs and organizations access to school property and operation on school grounds.

I understand that the issue is being reviewed by the school board because of a Gay Straight Alliance club forming at your high school. Some students and faculty are opposed to the organization forming because of personal beliefs.

Please consider some points while reviewing this issue and before a vote is made.

We as American Human Beings have a right to our personal beliefs, though varied, but always diverse, should always allow others the opportunity to share, discuss and express their beliefs. Not everyone is going to agree and frankly not everyone should.

We should try to put ourselves in the opposing persons situation and work through what they must be going through, especially at this time in their lives during High School where acceptance is hard to come by among fellow students.

The Gay Straight Alliance is a forum for students that are gay to get along with their fellow straight students to show their really is no difference, everyone wants the same things at this age, to be respected, to be recognized and the opportunity to be who they really are.

In general, being Gay should not be an issue, especially in an academic setting. Homosexuality has always been since the inception of mankind. It is seen in all aspects of nature and is just another part of the diverse fabric that is human nature. It will continue throughout our existence and be recognized for what already is in mankind's everyday life. Everyone in Farmington knows of someone or has heard of someone and most likely has a family member that is homosexual. They are our neighbors, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, cousins, nephews, nieces and friends.

Please do not shut them out of our schools when this is one of the most critical times all students need our adult support and caring. I am sure the school board cares about their students' well-being and by allowing such an organization to exist on campus shows that all students are welcomed, respected and valued.

Thank you for your consideration of my e-mail and I am assured that you will use good sound judgment before considering your vote on this very important issue.

Peace,

Reynaldo Chavez, Jr. Alamogordo, NM 88310

I believe that these students have a right to form this club! I feel that if you try and close the doors to our young people who are trying to be free and get along with others is just plain against our rights to free speach. I feel that if you try and stop this group from being able to form that there will be problems not only for the other students but there could be a lot of gay bashing. I personally am not gay. I have been married to my husband for almost 8 years, but I have a daughter that decided she was gay at age 12. Her and her soul mate have been together now for over26 years and both have great jobs. One a Dr. and the other a Lawyer. People have to be free. Being Gay is not a choice! It is something you are born to do. Just like you have no choice as to the color of your skin. God decided and now you must make the best of it. People stop hating people and enjoy diversity.

Let the people be free!

I believe that Piedra High School should allow a GSA club to start up....in high school many gay people do not have the kind of support they need because some students are continually attacked because they are freaks, unnormal, and don't need to be living. I don't discredit those students who did that sit-in because they are practicing their First Admendment rights.

Darn it, I don't see how to start a new topic.

I wanted to write that the story about Bishop Pellote worries me. I tried to find a way to contact someone where I could write, because I sometimes have a hard time talking because of some brain injury.

What I found so worrying was how he was described as confused and bruised.

When I had very low B12 levels I had a lot of bruises and I couldn't ever remember how I got them. I know I got them from bumping into things, but I didn't remember the individual incidents. It's hard to explain.

Vitamin B12 is essential for healthy nerves. That's so cliche, though. The thing is that if we take antacids, or have a lot of stress, we use up our stores and then we can have nerve damage... even peripheral neuropathy where we can't feel our feet, the same as if we had diabetes.

I would sure like for someone to tell the Bishop or someone close to him to start taking Methylcobalamin.

You'd think the hospital would tell him, but they failed to tell me. So it took a year from the time I was in the hospital till I got treatment.

I hope someone reads this that can get the message to Bishop Pellote or someone close to him.

(It was nice to read, "Walk in Beauty."Wink

Thank you.

Why is it that the only people interviewed in Gallup were non natives? Why weren't any of our navajo people interviewd by the KOAT news team? Doesn't seem fair to me since there are alot of us navajos that live in Gallup.
